Master Thesis A comparative study on residential soundscape perception of Arabic and Turkish people living in Ankara, Turkey(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Mohamed, Ali ElghdaffiIn studying the soundscape perception of the people of a certain acoustic environment, several concepts should be taken into consideration. Studies from the literature suggest that the factors that influence the soundscape perception are the sound environment and the auditory perception mainly. As a person spends most of the time in their houses, understanding the soundscape perception in the residential context is significant. This research investigates the soundscape perception differences of two cultural groups of the same acoustic environment. Therefore, the Arab and Turkish residents of Ankara participated with 405 questionnaires in order to assess their soundscape perception of the sound environment of the city within their house environment. The findings of the study suggest that the sound environment is equally important to both cultural groups, while the Arab residents showed a higher satisfaction level from the sound environment of their houses. Furthermore, the cultural factor demonstrated significant differences in the soundscape perception of the Arab and Turkish groups based on an overall soundscape perception evaluation, sound source loudness, sound frequency of occurrence and sound favourability using statistical analysis such as, one-way ANOVA and t-test.Master Thesis A comprehensive comparison of NOSQL and relational database management systems(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Taha, İhsan AhmedIn the last four 'decades, relational database management systems have been used widely to manage structured data in different disciplines. Nowadays, data resources increase rapidly in different forms (including structured, semi-structured and even unstructured data), requiring us to find another way to manage data. NoSQL database management systems previously were exhibited a few years ago, to meet the requirements of a variety of data forms. Many papers, and blogs have claimed that there is a trade-off between using relational database systems and non-relational database systems (NoSQL). In this study, we propose a novel investigation of the performance of relational and non-relational database systems in terms of the main operations that every database performs, such as insertion, reading, updating, and deleting by using the recent version of Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark (YCSB-0.9.0) in order to evaluate the performance of MySQL (RDBM) versus Mongo DB and Apache Cassandra (NoSQL). A testing environment is set up for each workload and the responses for each database management system used in the study are examined for each workload. It is worth mentioning that, although we use the latest version of Yahoo Cloud Serving Benchmark, it does not support the latest release of most database management systems, be they relational or non-relational. The results of this study show that the performance of each system differs due to the differences in their respective data storing mechanisms. In addition, the results of this study present the weaknesses and strengths of each database system used in the study.Master Thesis A GIS-based decision support system for locating new train stations in Iraq(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Naji, Hayder FarisRailway networks are one of the most necessary infrastructures all around the world. Today, to manage these networks, Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques should be used in order to study and analyze the railway network and its stations. It is very difficult to deal with railway systems by using traditional methods and the results may become inaccurate because of the huge amount of data related to them. In addition, by using GIS techniques in the development of the rail networks, the decision-making process will be improved and supported. Moreover, the results will be accurate because they result from using specific criteria to achieve a defined aim. In this study, the train stations in all of Iraq's provinces were studied and analyzed by using network analysis, which is one of the most powerful techniques within GIS. A GIS-based system was built by using the free trial copy of ArcGIS® software, PYTHON™ programming language, and ASP.Net (C#) programming language in order to develop a full decision-making environment to manage and locate train stations in the country of Iraq. The main methodology for this study is divided into two parts. v The first part identifies the problems in the current stations through the analysis of those stations by using network analysis. The second part determines the best candidate locations for new train stations depending on the number of people around those locations and the distance between those people and the new candidate locations according to the existing road network. In addition, the new locations should be accessible by people who are within a walking time of 20 minutes from the new locations as an accessibility value. The results will be presented as spatial maps, which portray the best locations for new train stations, and tabular data of the areas and the number of people to be served by the new stations.Article A GIS-based decision support system for tourism planning and development(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2018) Yıldırım, PınarIn the past twenty years, pioneering developments in information technology and communication systems worldwide have not only offered many opportunities in the fields of marketing, management and the promotion of tourism and recreational areas to businesses interested in tourism, but have also provided a sustainable advantage in competition with other businesses. Human related social factors such as user motivation, engagement, communication and collaboration issues affect the activities performed by software development organizations. In fact, software engineering researchers seek better ways to overcome the human related issues so as to improve the quality in software development. Consequently, research has been conducted to introduce new methodologies, techniques and concepts. As such, gamification has been introduced as a novel technique to enhance the software development process and ultimately resolve some of the identified obstacles that are related to human factors. However, there is a bias to adopt the gamification into the software development process because there are still insufficient evidences about its positive outcomes. In this study, a systematic literature review was rigorously conducted to investigate the application and to reveal the benefits of gamification in the software development landscapes. This study contributes to the area of software engineering research by proposing a classification approach to categorize gamification studies in software development landscapes. The results of this research suggest that there has been a significant increase in empirical and theoretical studies that were recently published and many positive steps being taken towards better integration of gamification in software development organizations.Master Thesis A systematic review of interactive information retrieval evaluation studies, 2007-2016(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Alyaseen, Haider Ali HasanSince the last mid-century researchers start investigate in the performance of IIR (interactive information retrieval). In this study, we have suggested some ideas to improve FlexDPDP scheme [13]. Particularly, proposed scheme successfully reduces the time complexity for verifying operations between the client and the server. The proposed scheme is a fully dynamic model. We involved some parameters to ensure the integrity of the metadata. In spite of the fact that auxiliary storage expenditure by Client-side (the client stores approximately 0.025% size of the raw file). The remarkable enhancement in this proposed scheme is reducing the complexity. The complexity of the communications and the computations decreased to O(1) in both Client-side and Server-side during the dynamically update (insertion, modification and deletion operations) and challenge operations.Master Thesis An evaluation of three search engines (google, yahoo, bing) based on arabic user perception(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Azeez, Suad ShattiWith the rapid increase of Arabic users around the world, a need of understanding the preferences of this wide Stratum of society is important. To do so we designed a questionnaire to evaluate three search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Bing) to reveal the Arabic user's perception of these three search engines. Each engine has its own features and it is own search methods to achieve the main purpose of search engines which is retrieving relevant results. This study exposes the pros and cons of the three tested search engines which give the opportunities to search engine developers to enhance their products. The results showed that Google performs very well comparing with Yahoo and Bing in some kind of data (text and video search) whereas image and advertisements Yahoo seems to be more accurate, Bing captivated many participants with its attractive homepage and useful features except supporting Arabic language in Bing map. Studies show that paying attention to the culture and economy of the individuals has direct relation with the issue of satisfaction. In the Ferdous alley of Tabriz we observe more satisfaction than Roshdye town where satisfaction level is more than the Mehr complex of Tabriz. But this isn't an indicator of the resident's satisfaction and a remediable percentage of them would like to have fundamental changes. So it can be said that culture, customs, expectations of house and family economy are main principles of architectural designing. As examined here about the housing in Tabriz, but unfortunately has been less considered main principles of architectural designing. Conducting primary research, prior designing will help more to inhibit the problem to happen.Master Thesis Analysis and design broadband microwave distributed amplifiers(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Yurt, ReyhanIn this thesis, microwave amplifier design techniques are analyzed and especially distributed technique is applied for broadband amplifier in L-S band according to the IEEE radar-frequency band. Conventional distributed amplifier (CDA) design topology is implied at 1-3 GHz frequency range. Available gain is obtained 14+2.5 dB with flatness. Optimum number of stages of amplifier is investigated and the result is evaluated as restriction of this topology so amplifier is designed with one stage. To increase gain performance cascaded single stage distributed amplifier (CSSDA) topology is analyzed and designed as 2-CSSDA at 1-3 GHz. In this design, almost 26 dB is obtained as peak value of available gain near 2.7 GHz and available gain is observed as 23.9+2 dB with simulations. CSSDA designed topology can be integrated with breakthrough circuit and approach so that more qualified distributed amplifier (DA) may be improved.Master Thesis Analysis and performance measurements of MIMO OFDM techniques for LTE(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2018) İbişoğlu, İsmailNowadays, the demand towards mobile phones that require high data rates applications has rapidly increased. AbdulrazaqThere are many complex dynamics appearing in nature science and technology one of the most useful approaches to model these phenomena is hybrid dynamical systems hybrid dynamic systems describe the interactions of continuous and discrete variables regulating each other ın this work we have looked at different types of hybrid systems that have been used in the modeling of biological systems we have also looked at the stability analysis of these systemsandhave given an example of a subclass of hybrid piecewise linear systems and checked the stability of these systems through an exampleMaster Thesis Analysis of lane changes for vehicle strings on highways: String stability, driving safety and comfort(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Sağlam, Harun BuğraAn important aim of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is the full or partial replacement of human driver functionality. Cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) is a recent technology for automating the longitudinal vehicle motion. Fulfilling the condition of string stability, CACC enables safe vehicle following at small inter-vehicle spacings and hence supports the formation of tight vehicle strings for improving the road capacity. In its classical realization, CACC is limited to the case where vehicle strings are already formed and all vehicles in a string follow each other on the same lane of a road. However, practical driving situations include the case of vehicles entering or leaving a string and performing maneuvers different from only vehicle following. This thesis is concerned with the effect of additional maneuvers due to lane changes (vehicles entering or leaving) on the safety of vehicle strings. Lane changes include gap opening and closing maneuvers and are subject to measurement inaccuracies and sensor errors due to changes of the vehicle locations. Accordingly, the effect of these maneuvers on the longitudinal vehicle motion has to be analyzed. As the first contribution, the thesis argues that the described measurement inaccuracies during lane changes can be modeled by input signal impulses of the respective vehicle. Moreover, opening/closing gap maneuvers can be realized by the generation of suitable feedforward input signals that are nonzero for a limited time. Respecting that multiple lane changes can occur in a vehicle string, the thesis proposes to study the effect of repeated input signals (impulses or time-limited input signals) on the output signal norm of LTI systems. The second contribution of the thesis is extending the definition of string stability to additional disturbances that can be applied to any vehicle in the string. Respecting the same idea, the third contribution of the thesis shows that a bound on the output signal norm of stable LTI systems exists if the repeated input signals (impulses or time-limited signals) are separated by a non-zero dwell-time. Additionally, an original computational procedure for finding a tight bound on the output signal norm is provided. The fourth contribution is the adaptation of these computational methods to the case of stable LTI systems with multiple inputs and outputs. The fifth contribution is the application of the obtained results to vehicle strings. It is shown that suitable analytical bounds for the relevant output signals such as distance error or acceleration can be determined and the results are validated by simulations. The last major contribution is the development of new numerical methods for bounding the matrix exponential function for large LTI systems based on the Jordan canonical form and the Schur decomposition. The evaluation of such norms is needed when computing the output signal norm of large LTI systems such as long vehicle strings.Master Thesis Analysis of the wayfinding system in a university based tertiary care hospital(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Layas, Hetham F.The ease of wayfinding in a complex environment can be understood by the users of the environment. Wayfinding, as a spatial problem solving activity, in a hospital can become a problem for the first time users. The aim of this study is to analyze the existing wayfinding system of a university based tertiary care hospital from the users' point of views; in other words, to understand the usability of the wayfinding system within the hospital. A questionnaire was administered to the users of the hospital. The results of the study indicated that the majority of the users were familiar with the hospital and spatial familiarity decreased the possibility of getting lost. The users found the number of signs sufficient and they had no difficulty in finding the elevators, staircases, main entrance, departments, information desks, and doctors' rooms since they were legible and visible from the circulation system, except for the academic campus. This study suggests that additional signage and you-are-here maps should be integrated into the wayfinding system of the hospital when an expansion has been done to the hospital layout.Master Thesis Analysis of vegetated building elements to achieve energy efficiency and improve indoor air quality in buildings(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Almuder, Monder M. HussaienDue to the increasing global demand for energy and the application of nonenvironment friendly building techniques, there is an ever-growing attention to environmental issues. Although many essential benefits of plants, such as absorbing chemical pollutants in air and regulating temperature are well-known, unfortunately they are still not efficiently integrated in building design. This thesis aims to increase the level of awareness regarding the benefits of vegetated building elements and hence, help to increase their application rates in order to achieve sustainable architecture practices by improving energy efficiency and indoor air quality. As to fulfilling these objectives, firstly an in-depth literature review, to provide a comprehensive guide that identifies the types, benefits, and techniques regarding the application of vegetated building elements was done. Moreover, a questionnaire which targeted academicians and professionals related to the field of architecture and construction in several countries was conducted. With this study, the importance of integrating plants in building elements was emphasized and the motivators and challenges for their applications were determined. It was seen that overall, there is reasonable knowledge of the application process, however, there is still the need to increase the level of awareness regarding the benefits of vegetated building elements, throughout communities. The application of vegetated building elements could significantly increase in future developments, if they were supported and adopted by governmental authorities and decision-makers.Master Thesis Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) based approach to identity the best fit green building certification system for turkey(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Said, Fatma S.As one of the most important global issues, the sustainable development goal has been legislated by many countries in order to ensure the compliance of the projects. Thus, ensuring the compliance of projects with the sustainability requirements is considered important for development. In this research, a methodology is introduced based on a strategy to find out the most influential criteria and sub-criteria that shall be considered for the development of a green building certification system for Turkey. The research adopts the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method by identifying the criteria and sub-criteria from the literature, as well as interviewing experts from different background; academicians, consultants and government decision makers. Using criteria and sub-criteria that are considered important according to the green building and sustainability studies, the questionnaire developed by the AHP software (Expert choice 11.5 academic version) is filled by the experts. The final results show that economy (cost) and efficiency are considered the most important criteria for the green building certification system in Turkey, while overall assessment success, registration and certification costs, and adaptability and reliability are the most important sub-criteria. The hypotheses testing show that the current certification systems are unsufficient for Turkey; and also the AHP method is thought to be successful for the assessment of Turkey's green building certification system.Master Thesis Analyzing the principles of sustainable architecture in vernacular Karaman houses of Northern Cyprus(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Movahendi, MazdakIt became evident through the study of vernacular structures in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus's (TRNC) Karaman Village, that these structures can serve as a basis for future developments in sustainable architecture, beyond helping to define the general principles of the sustainability in architecture. In a time when the island is looking to expand more structurally, a framework and set of criteria is needed to preserve the vernacular structures already found, but to also improve on the sustainable aspects of these houses. Therefore, the research presented here, through a literature review and in-depth analysis of three different cases studies, outlines the significant qualities of vernacular architecture and shows that these principles can and should be used in today's architectural toolkit in order to create contemporary yet sustainable designs for future buildings and houses in Cyprus. Therefore, this study has assessed the roots of sustainable architecture by analyzing three examples of vernacular structures of the Karaman Village in the TRNC. This is done in order to create a set of principles that will further define sustainable architecture to create a basis for which future designs can be based on iv and be improved on in this region. How vernacular architecture fits into the greater understanding of sustainability is also a byproduct of this study, especially in a way that will assist future designers and builders in understanding the most efficient and sustainable way to transition from traditional housing and building to structures that can be used and improved on in the modern eraMaster Thesis Assignment of afad warehouses to container ports in Turkey(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2017) Kılınç, Mehmet CanThe assignment of AFAD warehouses to container ports is a vital topic, but it has not been studied thoroughly in the literature. Turkey is a special case for using maritime transportation in humanitarian logistics, because of the geopolitical location and vulnerability of our country. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the use of maritime transportation in humanitarian logistics to respond natural disasters effectively for Turkey via the assignment of AFAD warehouses to container ports. In this thesis, a mathematical model for assigning 25 Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD in Turkish) logistics warehouses to suitable ports in Turkey is developed. The capabilities of ports to handle humanitarian logistics activities, ports' closeness to AFAD logistics warehouses, suitability of access using different transportation modes and capacities of AFAD logistics warehouses are some of the criteria that is considered in this model. Assignments are also analyzed by taking into consideration of container ports' railway connections availability. The developed approach provides an alternative solution to humanitarian operations in Turkey.Master Thesis Audio watermarking using DWT of second level decomposition of low frequency and using RMS on approximation coefficients(Çankaya Üniversitesi, 2014) Maraha, Heyam Essam JibraelDigital media are distributed through the internet system in a magnificent manner due to the efficiency and inexpensiveness of such a system. Audio clips and other digital signals are transmitted, shared and used easily. This causes a real security problem. Solving this problem leads to finding authentication techniques to provide security for these digital media. Digital watermarking is a suggested solution technique to offer such security for these distributed digital signals. Digital watermarking is the art of embedding information (a watermark) in the original signal, taking into consideration preserving the quality of the host digital signal. There are different types of watermarking media such as image, video and audio; our thesis focuses on audio watermarking techniques. Also, there are a variety of techniques using the watermarking algorithm that depends on the type of algorithm that is used to embed the watermark in the original signal. In our thesis, we have used DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) of second level decomposition of the approximation coefficients of each frame. These frames are resulted from segmenting the original audio clips into frames, each one equal to 10 seconds. Also, we have applied the RMS (Root Mean Square) to these approximation coefficients which represent the low frequency of each frame. The aim of using the RMS is to find the higher magnitude approximation coefficients among the segmented frames; then to embed the watermark in a quarter of the selected frames according to the magnitude order. A watermark of 256 x 256 pixels was embedded in two tested audio clips (Pop and Classic) according to the former algorithm. We have applied 17 attacks that try to remove or modify the watermark that is hidden in the original audio clips. Also variety of models such as subjective and objective models were applied to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm results. The results of the proposed watermarking technique show an effective robustness against most of the applied attacks, especially in MP3 Compression, Quantization, Additive Noise, Resample and Low Pass Filter; however, it shows fragile robustness in Time Stretch and Pitch Shift attacks
