After filtering, the imbalanced dataset was balanced with 5 different SMOTE methods and classified with various machine learning algorithms. Coarse-K-Nearest Neighbor, Bagged Trees, and Artificial Neural Networks models were evaluated in epilepsy detection. The performance of these different models was compared with Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC) and F1 Score metrics. The results showed that the Borderline-SMOTE algorithm had the highest F1 Score and MCC values among all machine learning algorithms. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Conference Object AviBERT: Transformer Tabanlı Hava Aracı Metni Sınıflandırma(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025) Unal, Muhammed Cihat; Yurtalan, Gokhan; Karatas, Yahya Bahadir; Karamanlioglu, Alper; Demirel, BerkanIn recent years, transformer-based models pre-trained on extensive corpora have played a critical role in the advancement of Natural Language Processing methodologies. Particularly, methods based on BERT have demonstrated remarkable performance across various tasks by offering robust capabilities in deeply understanding texts semantically. However, despite these advancements, there is a notable scarcity of studies applying these technologies in the aviation sector. This paper develops a multi-class classification model for aviation-specific texts using variants of BERT. The study encompasses the processes of collecting web content related to aircraft, labeling and model training. The details of the dataset are explained and the outcomes of the study are assessed based on the macro F1-score and accuracy of different models. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Americanization of Political Campaigns: a Comparison of the Cases of Forza Italia and the Young Party(Turkiye Orta Dogu Amme Idaresi Enstitusu, 2010) Turk, Hasan Bahadir; Türk, Hasan Bahadır; Siyaset Bilimi ve Uluslararası İlişkilerSimilar to political institutions and structures, political campaigns have also undergone dramatic transformations. The Americanization of political campaigns, which are characterized by certain peculiarities, such as the personalization of politics, weakening of party organizations, wide use of media channels in the political marketing process, need for specialization, primacy of opinions over ideologies and conceptualization of citizens as policy consumers, is a by-product of these dramatic transformations. This paper aims to compare Forza Italia and the Young Party through the Americanization of political campaigns with special emphasis on the connection between the transformation of political campaigns and the crisis of representative democracy.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 8Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of Cohen- Mansfield Agitation Inventory in Patients With Dementia(Gunes Kitabevi Ltd Sti, 2012) Baştuğ, Gülbahar; Ozel-Kizil, E. Tugba; Bastug, Gulbahar; Erdogan, Seyda; Sakarya, Direnc; Durmaz, Nazli; PsikolojiIntroduction: Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI) is frequently used in patients with dementia for the assessment of agitation severity. This instrument is especially used in research investigating the severity of behavioral symptoms and their treatment responses. In this study, psychometric properties of the Turkish version of CMAI were investigated in patients with dementia (n=52). Materials and Method: CMAI-Turkish version was applied by face-to-face interview to the caregivers of dementia patients who were admitted to a geriatric psychiatry outpatient clinic. For validity, the correlations between CMAI total scores and Neuropsychiatry Inventory (NPI) total and subscale scores were evaluated. For internal consistency, Cronbach alpha value of the items was calculated. Results: CMAI scores were significantly correlated with NPI scores and Cronbach alpha value of the scale was high (0.89). Conclusion: Turkish version of CMAI is a valid and reliable tool for the assessment of the frequency and severity of agitation behavior. Further studies might evaluate inter-rater reliability of the scale in inpatients with dementia.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Ber Anaylsis for Super Lorentz-Gaussian Laser Beams Propagating in Turbulent Media(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2013) Gokce, Muhsin C.; Gökçe, Muhsin Caner; Sari, Filiz; Ozek, Faruk; Elektronik ve Haberleşme MühendisliğiIn this work, BER-SNR variation of super Lorentz-Gaussian laser beam that propagating horizontally path in turbulent media is analyzed. Using scintillation index which is obtained by extented Huygens-Fresnel principle, BER - SNR value is calculated. Matlab program is used to show BER - SNR variation depending on link distance and beamwidth. To conclude, in short link range, super Lorentz-Gaussian beam is proven to be better link performance superior to commercially available Gaussian beam.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Effect of Use of Cu-Cr P/M Electrodes on Machining Performance of Electric Discharge Machining(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2015) Gulcan, Orhan; Çoğun, Can; Uslan, Ibrahim; Usta, Yusuf; Cogun, Can; Çoʇun, Can; Mekatronik MühendisliğiIn this study, the effect of use of Cu-Cr powder metal (P/M) electrodes on EDM performance outputs, namely material removal rate (MRR), electrode wear rate (EWR), mean and maximum roughness of machined surface (R-a and R-z) and workpiece surface recast layer thickness, was investigated experimentally. The Cu-Cr P/M electrodes produced at different mixing ratios, compacting pressures and sintering temperatures were used to machine SAE 1040 steel. The analyses performed have shown that the electrode material is deposited on to the work surface as a layer and the powder mixing ratio, the compaction pressure and sintering temperature affect the EDM performance outputs.Article Citation - WoS: 25Citation - Scopus: 31Supporting Foreign Language Vocabulary Learning Through Multimedia Messages Via Mobile Phones(Hacettepe Univ, 2010) Saran, Murat; Saran, Murat; Seferoglu, Goelge; Bilgisayar MühendisliğiThis study explored the effectiveness of mobile learning in foreign language education. With this purpose, instructional materials to be delivered through mobile phones operated in second generation GSM technology in order to improve English language learners' vocabulary acquisition were developed. The multimedia messages in this study allowed students to see the definitions of words, example sentences, related visual representations, and pronunciations. After students finished reading multimedia messages, interactive short message service (SMS) quizzes for testing their learning were sent. In addition, the study examined students' tendencies in using MMS in their second language vocabulary study and explored the opinions of the students toward the use of mobile phones for instructional purposes. The findings of this study suggest some important points to consider while creating MMS content and a SMS quiz system for educational purposes.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 4An Analytical Investigation of Rigid Plastic Beams Under Impact Loading(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2015) Gultop, Tekin; Gültop, Tekin; Yilmaz, Mahmut Cem; Alyavuz, Bahadir; İnşaat MühendisliğiBeams might be subjected to impact loading which is a particular type of dynamic loading during their service lives. In this study the behaviour of beams under low speed impact loading has been investigated analytically. Simply supported and fixed ended beams have been analyzed with the assumption of rigid plastic behaviour. The collapse mechanism has been assumed to emerge by the instant formation of plastic hinges, hence, a limit analysis has been performed under dynamic loading considering the conservation principles of energy and momentum. The behaviour of rigid plastic beams under impact loading has been compared to the behaviour of elastic beams under similar loading conditions.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 7Development and Experimental Investigation of Electrochemical Drilling Method Using Rotary Tube Tool(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2013) Ozerkan, H. Bekir; Çoğun, Can; Cogun, Can; Mekatronik MühendisliğiIn this study, a new hybrid electrochemical drilling (ECD) method, based on electrochemical machining in nonconventional machining processes, was developed. In the developed method, tube tool makes rotary motion together with inner through hole flushing. A small scale prototype ECD machine has been designed and manufactured to test the developed method. One of the important features of the new system is the regulation of tool feed rate using current feedback control. The Hadfield (manganese) steel, whose strain hardening behavior makes it very difficult to machine with conventional methods, and AISI 1040 steel, whose machinability is fairly good, were drilled using the prototype machine and results were compared. Workpiece material removal rate increased with the increasing machining voltage, tool rotational speed, electrolyte concentration and flushing pressure in both types of steels. Average radial overcut values increased with the rotational speed of the tool. The AISI 1040 steel hole geometries were regular than that of Hadfield steel. Experimental results showed that deep holes can be drilled successfully with the proposed hybrid ECD method.
