Integrating the Seljuk Cultural Layer Into Contemporary Life: The Case of Niğde Historic City Center
(Istanbul Univ, Research Inst Turkology, Dept Art History, 2025) Yavaşcan, Emel Efe; Urak, Zehra Gediz

Designing an Off-Road Working Lamp With Leds
(Istanbul Univ, Fac Engineering, 2011) Cil, Celal Zaim; Yakisir, Burcu; Girgin, Burcu Yakışır
In this study a working lamp used on the off-road working machines and vehicles is designed by using the LED diodes instead of a halogen bulb. In the design, firstly a LED array is determined and a proper driver circuit that can provide the required optical power is designed, and the working lamp developed is tested under various conditions. The luminous output values of the designed LED working lamp are compared with those of a commercial working lamp, which uses a halogen bulb. It is evaluated that in automotive applications lamps using LEDs could be successfully utilized depending on the optical efficacy of the LED used, the designs of the LED driver and the reflector.

Traditional Architecture in the Central-Northern Mediterranean Region: Tectonics and Typological Analysis of Traditional Mut Houses
(Konya Technical Univ, Fac Architecture & design, 2024) Urak, Zehra Gediz; Manav, Ayşe
Architectural tectonics is a crucial starting point for comprehending traditional houses in terms of their form and usage. The components of land use, material use and construction technique, and plan layout, which reveal \"tectonic integrity,\" are the criteria that are considered. This study employs the typology method to question the tectonics of traditional housing architecture located in the central northern part of the Mediterranean Region, specifically through the example of Mut Houses in Mersin province. The typology study has facilitated the identification and quantification of the diverse array of architectural solutions and details that are characteristic of the region. Mut is a medium-sized district situated in the mountainous parts of the Central Taurus Mountains, with a settlement history dating back to the Roman Period. The fact that microclimatic conditions impact the supply of materials and construction techniques, and the cultural context influences the use of land, garden, and space, ensures that traditional Mut houses possess a distinct appearance in this region. Regrettably, these houses, which contain important details of the region, are at risk of extinction. This article documents the tectonic values of traditional Mut houses and conducts a typological analysis of them.

Tying Memories Into a Pattern: William Golding's Free Fall as Autobiografiction and Trauma Narrative
(Rector Ciu Cyprus int Univ, 2022) Kirca, Mustafa
William Golding's 1959 Free Fall depicts the narrator/character Samuel Montjoy's retrospective interrogation of his past in his "non-chronological" autobiography to understand his present self. His first-person narration is a journey into his memories presented according to their importance for him at different stages of his life (the narrated self) and shows the role of memory in shaping the present self (the narrating self). The narrator regulates his memories to conceive a coherent pattern in his autobiographical account which will also give meaning to his life and help construct a unified identity. However, he adopts a structure that has to rely on his remembering/forgetting, which problematizes the idea of constructing the self through unreliable memory. With this quality of the novel as an early example of the "fiction of memory," Golding's text is inventive and looks forward to contemporary narrative approaches to autobiographical writing. Free Fall has been widely studied as an existentialist novel due to the novelist's questioning the concepts of freedom to choose and fall through the protagonist's quest for self-knowledge. However, the aim of this study is to analyse Golding's work as autobiografiction and trauma narrative where the text presents an account of the protagonist's attempt for reconstructing the self through memories subject to his modifications and offers the therapeutic use of his self-narration.

Scattering of Plane-Waves by an Impedance Half-Plane at the Interface Between Isorefractive Media
(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2018) Basdemir, Husnu Deniz
The scattering of plane waves by an impedance half-plane located at the interface of two isorefractive media is investigated. The scattered field, in addition to the diffracted and geometrical optics fields, is analyzed numerically and compared to the scattered field of perfectly conducting half-plane. The effect of the isorefractive media on the scattered field is also examined. © 2017, © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
