Article Importance of Zoning for Vertical Circulation Planning of Densely Populated Buildings: A Simulation Based Approach for Elevator Traffic Analyses(Gazi Univ, 2025) Deligoz, Dostcan; Harputlugil, TimucinElevator systems are essential in multi-story buildings, affecting circulation, travel time, and user comfort. Traditional design methods, based on mathematical calculations, provide initial estimates of elevator numbers and capacities by considering basic operational criteria. However, these methods cannot fully capture dynamic passenger flows and temporal variations in demand. Dynamic simulation-based elevator traffic analysis, on the other hand, allows for more comprehensive evaluation of elevator operations and enables testing of alternative zoning scenarios. In this study, a dynamic simulation-based analysis is applied as a case study for a hospital outpatient building. Different zoning strategies are implemented for elevator groups to evaluate their effect on system performance. Performance criteria, including Average Waiting Time (AWT), Average Time To Destination (ATTD), and Interval (INT), are assessed across different zoning scenarios and compared with values commonly reported in the literature. The results highlight the potential of zoning to improve elevator performance, including passenger handling, waiting times, and travel efficiency. Especially in buildings where physical modifications are difficult, the combination of simulation-based analysis and carefully designed zoning strategies can reveal the potential for enhancing operational performance and optimizing elevator efficiency within existing physical constraints.Article W-Band RCS Prediction of Small Objects: Comparing Two Widely Used Methods with Experimental Validation(Gazi Univ, 2025) Kara, Ali; Aydın, Elif; Yardım, Funda Ergün; Sezgin, Deniz; Ergun Yardim, FundaThis paper compares the accuracy of Shooting and Bouncing Rays and Electric Field Integral Equation methods for Radar Cross Section prediction of small objects at 77-81 GHz band. Existing studies on RCS prediction methods often lack comprehensive comparisons between computational and experimental results, particularly for small objects measured with a 77 GHz radar. This study addresses this gap by presenting an in-depth analysis of both simulation and measurement data. In this work, three targets with varying geometries and materials were measured with a frequency modulated continuous wave radar and simulated using Ansys HFSS and CST Studio Suite. The measurements were performed with a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) frequency modulated continuous wave radar operating at 77-81 GHz. This study aims to emphasize the importance of considering both efficiency and accuracy when opting for an RCS prediction method. Overall, the outcomes of both methods have largely demonstrated good alignment. It has been noted that, while Shooting and Bouncing Rays method offers promising time-saving advantages, Electric Field Integral Equation method remains a valuable tool for complex geometries where precise results are crucial.Article Citation - WoS: 3Completion of Tvs-Cone Metric Spaces and Some Fixed Point Theorems(Gazi Univ, 2011) Abdeljawad, Thabet; Abdeljawad, Thabet; MatematikIn this paper a completion theorem for cone metric spaces and a completion theorem for cone normed space over a complete locally convex topological vector space E are proved. The interaction between the cluster atoms is modeled by an EmbeddedAtom Potential Surface, Voter and Chen's version. The stable geometrical structures and energies are obtained from 500 phase space coordinates generated along high-energy trajectories. The internal energy (about T=2500 K) is above the melting temperature of the Cun clusters. The thermal quenching technique is employed to remove slowly the internal kinetic energy of the clusters. The paper considers optimizing the PV system selection objectives and methodology with a case study application. at a university campus in Ankara, Turkey. The main objective here is to develop a practical simple method of selecting an optimum PV system that gives the maximum energy yield possible in a certain period of one year, with the minimum specific energy cost per kWh, where a multiple-variable multi-criteria decision-making making method is applied, to help designers and system engineers in selecting the optimum system. The developed method is demonstrated in the example of the typical case, where the recommended PV system was turned out to be at an Azmuth angle of 0 degrees, the PV technology was monocrystelline Silicon, the annual electrical energy yield per 100 m2 of PV modules surface area 22.4 MWH/Year, the specific electrical energy cost was 0.15 Euos/Kwh, as a first merit option, making a difference of around 13% of saving compared with the 10th last option. The work concludes that a viable PV application is feasible, encouraging its application in various campuses provided that comprehensive planning and careful considerations are given to the related aspects.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Sustainable Management of a Renewable Fishery Resource With Depensation Dynamics From a Control Systems Perspective(Gazi Univ, 2022) Cıfdaloz, OguzhanHuman societies are exploiting natural renewable sources such as fisheries, forests, groundwater basins, rivers, and soil at an increasing intensity. Around the world, these resources are being managed by various institutions or governments. One of the challenges faced by institutions is to develop strategies and policies to effectively manage these renewable resources under social and ecological uncertainties, disturbances, policy implementation difficulties, and measurement errors. In this paper, a fishery is considered as an example and the problem of managing a fishery is approached from a control systems perspective. The justification behind this approach is due to the observation that the problem of managing a renewable resource can be posed as a control systems problem and that the discipline of control systems possesses tools and methods to deal with model uncertainties, external disturbances, measurement errors and implementation issues. For the fishery, a depensation type population dynamics model is considered. Depensatory models are used in social/ecological systems in order to model dynamics of certain species of fish populations. An optimal control strategy based on Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle is derived and its sustainability and robustness properties with respect to parametric uncertainties, measurement errors and disturbances are examined. Finally, a sub-optimal but more robust control strategy is proposed and its robustness properties are provided. The main objective of the paper is to show that a control systems engineering approach can be applied to a social-ecological problem and it can provide easy to implement management strategies, insight, and guidance into the management of renewable resources.Article A Comparative Research on Space of Women in Prayer Place Interiors of Celestial Religions: Cases From Istanbul(Gazi Univ, 2020) Disli, Gulsen; Ozcan, ZuhalCross-cultural comparison has been used in architecture mostly to discuss the components of culture, knowledge, and value systems, yet to date there is not a specific comparative study on gendered architecture in prayer places of celestial religions, namely Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Hence, this study aims to reveal how attendance of women in prayer places with different national, historic, religious, and cultural characteristics shaped architectural space organization and to assess potential similarities and differences of women's section in prayer spaces of celestial religions by examining literature survey, archival and historic research, including field observations. In addition to general observations in building scale, some exemplary historic synagogues, churches, and mosques in Istanbul still in use have been chosen as case studies, and their plan typologies, as well as types and locations of women's galleries/sections have been discussed. Cross-cultural comparison parameters were; development of women's section in prayer places as a structured architectural space and basic architectural terminologies used to define women's section. The major conclusion of the study is that originally women had right to worship in prayer spaces without any physical separation in all three religions, yet in time the place of women had a more defined/divided/structured character especially in Islam and Judaism. The study also indicates that while at present day, gendered architecture is still the predominant approach in Islam and in Orthodox Judaism; mix congregation in a single-unsegregated space for both sexes is more common in contemporary society of Christianity.Article Citation - WoS: 2The Historical Water Systems of Istanbul and Their Preservation Problems: The Case of The Kırkçeşme Water System(Gazi Univ, 2018) Karakuş, Filiz; Urak, Z. Thearticle gives information on the historical water systems and emphasizes the changes in anddeterioration of the Kırkçeşme Water System from the time it was constructed. These valueswhichhave not been preserved as a result of inadequate planning, wrong policies, rapiddevelopment, and changes and distortions caused by lack of awarenesshave been identifiedthrough a literature review and an on-site review. The problem identified in the article is aneglect to preserve the waterways as cultural assets. The aim of this study is to propose amethod to detect and protect water structures in the sampling area. Physical analysises were notpossible due to the large number of structures and the inability to reach laboratory facilities.This article suggests that there be an implementation of a management model necessary forprotection.
