Article A Novel Hypercube-Based Approach To Overlay Design Algorithms on Topic Distribution Networks(Gazi Univ, 2022) Yumusak, Semih; Hassanpour, Reza; Layazali, Sina; Oztoprak, Kasim; Hassanpour, Reza; Yazılım MühendisliğiData communication in peer-to-peer (P2P) network requires a fine-grained optimization for memory and processing to lower the total energy consumption. When the concept of Publish/subscribe (Pub/Sub) systems were used as a communication tool in a P2P network, the network required additional optimization algorithms to reduce the complexity. The major difficulty for such networks was creating an overlay design algorithm (ODA) to define the communication patterns. Although some ODAs may perform worse on a high-scale, some may have better average/maximum node degrees. Based on the experimentation and previous works, this study designed an algorithm called the Hypercube-ODA, which reduces the average/maximum node degree for a topic connected Pub/Sub network. The Hypercube-ODA algorithm creates the overlay network by creating random cubes within the network and arranging the nodes with the cubes they belong to. In this paper, the details of the proposed Hypercube algorithm were presented and its performance was compared with the existing ODAs. Results from the experiments indicate that the proposed method outperforms other ODA methods in terms of lower average node degree (lowering the average node degree by up to 60%).Article Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi Koruma ve Eğitim Vizyonuna Dair Bir Belge: Antikiteler ve Tarihi Eserlerden Derslerde Nasıl İstifade Edileceği Hakkında Andıç(Hacettepe University, 2025) Önge, M.Public consciousness for the conservation of the cultural heritage had been one of the most significant problems of Turkey hitherto. The founders of the republic, the intellectuals and the statesmen, who knew that the ignorance is the major cause of this problem, proposed the use of the cultural heritage of all types in the history lessons as the course material. This practice took place in the curriculum of the schools for the first time in 1926. In order to define its method better, a guidebook with the title “The Memorandum on the Usage of Antiquities and Historical Artifacts in the Courses”, is published in 1935, addressing the teachers. This guidebook, which was strangely named as “memorandum”, focuses on the idea of creating heritage conservation awareness in the public by making school age teenagers understand and embrace their cultural heritage. In this context, being completely different from the present-day authoritarian attitudes, the memorandum should be accepted as a significant document, which define a conservation attitude socializing heritage conservation by public education. This document also contains the evidences, which are related to the changes in terminology for defining cultural heritage in Türkiye, with respect to the changing attitudes and ways of understanding. Although it is not known how it had emerged, it is very probable that the memorandum was a part of the series of developments relating cultural heritage conservation in Türkiye, during the 1930’s. The memorandum text was consisting of twenty-four articles. The teachers were being instructed on how they are going to use the cultural heritage of all kinds in the courses, how they are going to make the cultural heritage meaningful for the students and make them enjoy the cultural heritage. It is noteworthy that the text contains application proposals like homework on the cultural heritage examples and establishment of school museums. Although the memorandum is an outdated document, the topics in it have timeless special importance. Therefore, the memorandum can be accepted as the expression of a cultural heritage attitude beyond its age. In this study, it is aimed to carry out extensive research on the memorandum. The memorandum is analyzed with respect to the heritage conservation related developments of its period and its importance is discussed in terms of its relation to present day conservation attitudes. In addition to being valuable as a document describing the conservation approaches of the early Republican Period, it has been revealed that the memorandum is up-to-date in terms of its content and an expression of the willing approach to conservation of its period. In the design, firstly a LED array is determined and a proper driver circuit that can provide the required optical power is designed, and the working lamp developed is tested under various conditions. The luminous output values of the designed LED working lamp are compared with those of a commercial working lamp, which uses a halogen bulb. It is evaluated that in automotive applications lamps using LEDs could be successfully utilized depending on the optical efficacy of the LED used, the designs of the LED driver and the reflector.Article Statistical Models for Porous Asphalt Mixtures Containing Pulverized Surface Dressed Pavement Material/Low-density Polyethylene Waste(MIM RESEARCH GROUP, 2025) Oner, Julide; Almusawı, Alı; Abdulrahman, Hassan Shuaibu; Ahmed, Nasiru IbrahimPorous asphalt (PA) mixtures typically contain a high proportion of coarse aggregates with minimal fine aggregates, along with a binder that creates ample space for water drainage. Since road construction consumes large quantities of aggregates, recycling and reusing materials have become common practices. This study focuses on developing PA by partially replacing traditional aggregates with pulverized surface-dressed pavement material (PSM) and modifying bitumen with low-density polyethylene (LDPE). The mixtures were produced using 60/70 penetration grade bitumen modified with 2%, 4%, and 6% LDPE waste and 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% PSM. Adding LDPE waste to the bitumen altered key properties, such as the softening point, penetration, flashpoint, and ductility, resulting in a stiffer binder. Replacing aggregates with PSM reduced both stability and flow, leading to a lower Marshall quotient. Flow values for all trial mixes did not meet AAPA (2004) standards, while stability values slightly decreased as LDPE content increased from 2% to 6%. Despite this, all samples met the AAPA (2004) stability standard. The sample containing 2% LDPE and no PSM exhibited the highest Marshall quotient. Linear regression models were developed from experimental data to highlight the relationships between the measured responses and the variables. These polynomial equations demonstrated a strong correlation, indicated by high coefficients of determination. The study introduces an innovative approach by incorporating PSM and LDPE, largely unexplored in PA production, especially in Nigeria. The major societal benefits include reducing environmental pollution through plastic waste reuse, conserving natural aggregates, and promoting cost-effective construction practices. By advancing the use of recycled materials, this research supports sustainable infrastructure development while maintaining compliance with industry standards. © 2025 MIM Research Group. One of the concerns raised after the earthquakes of February 2023 is the possible serious impacts of earthquakes on Syrian refugees. Within this framework, this study aimed to examine the location choice processes of Syrian refugees in reference to earthquake hazards and risks. To do this, it evaluated the location choice decisions of Syrians at the city, settle-ment area and housing scales together with their social char-acteristics. The researcher's own studies on location choice, everyday life, residential satisfaction, integration and quality of life of Syrian refugees, and related research in the literature, as well as statistical data obtained from the website of the Presidency of Migration Management, were synthesized to reach hints about earthquake hazards and risks at different scales and dimensions. The findings of the study indicated that the majority of the Syrian population is dispersed in earthquake -prone cities, which increases earthquake risks for both the Syrian population and these cities. On the other hand, the lack of housing and settlement policies for Syrian refugees scattered throughout Turkish cities has forced them to take responsibility for meeting their own housing needs. This has led Syrian refugees having limited financial resources to resettle in poor/underdeveloped and/or illegal settlement areas of cities where they live in low-quality, neglected, unhealthy, and structurally problematic houses having disaster risks. Moreover, Syrians' large family size, vulnerable groups including women, children and elders, and our inadequate knowledge on Syrian refugees due to their unauthorized movements within and between cities and their unregistered groups have increased their risk of being adversely affected by earthquakes.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5On Some Fractional Operators Generated From Abel's Formula(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2022) Ugurlu, EkinThis work aims to share some fractional integrals and derivatives containing three real parameters. The main tool to introduce such operators is the corresponding Abel's equation. Solvability conditions for the Abel's equations are shared. Semigroup property for fractional integrals are introduced. Integration by parts rule is given. Moreover, mean value theorems and related results are shared. At the end of the paper, some directions for some fractional operators are given.Article Mediating Roles of Impulsivity and Risk-Taking in the Links of the Dark Triad With Flirting and Dating Via Social Media(Istanbul Univ, Fac Letters, dept Psychology, 2022) Demircioglu, Zeynep Isil; Goncu-Kose, AsliWith the acceleration of communication and access to information, individuals have begun to date via social networking sites. Although online dating has spread among university students recently, studies on this topic are very limited. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of the Dark Triad personality traits (i.e., Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism) on using Social Networking Sites (SNS) to find partners and face-to-face meeting/dating after flirting via the internet (i.e., face-to-face dating with a partner met via SNS). Furthermore, it was also aimed to identify the mediating roles of risk-taking and impulsivity in the relationships mentioned above. Data were collected from 358 University students (223 females and 135 males) who volunteered to complete the survey packages. The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The age of the participants ranged between 18 and 49 (M = 22.67, SD = 2.83). The results revealed that narcissism was linked to using SNS to find partners, and impulsivity fully mediated the relationships of Machiavellianism with using SNS to find partners. In addition, the links of psychopathy with using SNS to find partners were partially mediated by impulsivity, with risk-taking fully mediating the effects of psychopathy and narcissism on face-to-face dating with a partner met via SNS. The present research revealed that impulsivity and risk-taking were the common attitudes underlying the links of psychopathy and narcissism with dating someone met via SNS. For individuals who score high on Machiavellianism, a low level of impulsivity is a protective factor; whereas a high level of impulsivity is a triggering factor that leads those with high psychopathy scores to search for partners via SNS. Contrary to expectations, narcissism was not directly associated with face-to-face dating a partner who was met via SNS. This finding may be related to the unidimensional measurement of narcissism, since grandiose narcissism is more likely to be positively associated with this risky and confident behavior, whereas vulnerable narcissism is less likely to have such an association.Article A Neo-Structuralist Perspective on Architectural Theory of Post-Truth Era: Re-Constructing the Architect-Subject(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2022) Cavdar, Rabia CigdemThe fundamental aim of the article is to scrutinise the transformations and yet pseudo-disappearance of architectural theory with an archi-theoretical gaze. It is an attempt to reread/ write the architectural theory of the 21st century in the shade of the claim that architectural theory was dead. It is obvious that not only in architecture but also in all social-life structures, free-floating meanings began to invade the totality; every concept that constitutes societal life was dislocated after the digital turn. Concepts began to be depicted with the prefix 'pose; such as post-historical, post-humanist, post-political, post-ideological, post-theory, and even, 'post-truth'. Under these circumstances, the main argument of the article is that architecture could be run as a 'point de capitone' -in Lacanian terminology-, between the subject -described as the sublime object of ideology by Zizek- and the ideology; the role of architecture is to work as a stabiliser on/between the liquid surfaces/grounds. In the context of the main argument, the article is structured on three conceptual domains, which are that ideology, subject and architecture. Architecture as a point de capitone has a significant role in the reconstitution of incommensurable dialectic in the 'redoubling procedure; which works for both recreating the lost otherness, and providing social antagonism.Article Kronik Hastalıklarda Duygu Düzenleme: Kalp ve Damar Sistemi Hastalıkları, Kanser, Migren, Fibromiyalji ve Sedef Hastalığı Üzerine Bir Derleme(Association for Clinical Psychology Research, 2023) Tuna, E.Emotion regulation (ER) involves conscious and automatic regulation of the occurrence, type, intensity, timing, and expression of emotions. Previous studies indicate that ER not only affects individuals’ mental health outcomes, but also plays a critical role in physical health as well. Especially in chronic diseases, how emotions are regulated shapes many patient variables including self-care, treatment adherence, and stress management; affecting both physical and psychological well-being. Furthermore, there is evidence that ER plays a role in initiation and prognosis of some chronic diseases. The aim of this review article was to summarize evidence regarding the association between chronic diseases and ER, and describe limitations in the existing studies in order to guide future research. To reach this aim, after a brief discussion of the mechanisms between emotions and health, we discussed research findings on ER in cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, migraine, fibromyalgia, and psoriasis, respectively. Findings indicate that emotion and ER play a role in the etiology of CVD; yet there are mixed findings regarding their role in the etiology of cancer. Research on migraine, psoriasis and fibromyalgia are rather correlational. Findings generally suggest that individuals with a chronic disease report more problems in ER as compared to healthy individuals. Frequent use of less adaptive strategies among patients have been related to less favorable outcomes such as psychopathology symptoms, bodily symptoms, and lower quality of life. Understanding ER in chronic diseases could guide the development of prevention and intervention programs aimed at increasing patients’ quality of life. Tüm hakları saklıdır.Article A New Novel Model Proposal For Bond-Slip Behavior Between Angular CFRP Fan Type Anchoraged CFRP Strip and Concrete Surface(2020) Ghoroubi, Rahim; Mercimek, Ömer; Anıl, Özgür; Özgür, A. C. AnılIn the reinforced concrete, masonry or steel structures should be strengthened or repaired. Carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) have been widely used for the last 20 years for repairing and strengthening of inadequate earthquake performance of the structures. One of the most important developed design criteria in the retrofit and strengthening details are using CFRP to delay the debonding of the CFRP reinforcement elements. For this reason, the uses of anchors in the reinforcement details developed by using CFRP and also researches on this subject have increased substantially. In the literature, research on bond-slip models developed for fan type CFRP anchors and anchored CFRP strips used in reinforcement details are limited in comparison to non-anchored strips. However, in studies on this subject, anchors are placed at 90o to the axial tensile force applied to the CFRP strips. Axial force-bearing strength and bond-slip models of CFRP strips with the different anchored angle under axial tensile strengths have not been found in the literature. For this reason, an experimental study was carried out and 28 specimens of angled anchored CFRP strip test specimen, which was bonded to the concrete surface, was tested under the influence of axial tensile force with an experimental setup designed by the authors. The variables studied in the experimental study are the CFRP strip width and the fan type CFRP anchor angle placed on the CFRP strip. As a result of the experimental study, an equation was proposed for calculating the bearing strength values of angled anchored CFRP strips and a new proposal for the bond-slip model was developed.
